Wasn't sure how it was going to go, because the whole morning started out quirky. Kayla wouldn't wake up and I had to put her on the bus half-asleep. I forgot to bring my canvas bags when I went food shopping. I got the wrong free turkey and had to run to the back of the store to get the right one. The AutoPay on my Pay-As-You-Go Verizon phone didn't go through, so not only did I have no cell service when I was out, I had to pay manually online, AND they erased my previous $65 balance because the phone had expired! ARGHHHHH!!! (and yes, I sent an email out requesting my $65 back since THEY screwed it up.)
Fortunately, things turned around by conference time!
I knew Laurie was doing well, but I was a bit shocked at how well she is doing. She got a 98 in math, a 97 in social studies, a 96 in English and a 90 in science. She would have gotten a 97 in science, but she screwed up one test and got a 35 on it--because she had to take it late since she left sick that day.
The teacher and I agreed based on that experience that we need to take the state testing modifications out of her 504 plan. I had asked for a separate location and extra time for the state tests because I thought she'd get too stressed out, but it looks like she'd get MORE stressed out taking a test apart from her peers.
On the STAR diagnostic tests, she's reading almost at the 4th grade level (she's in 3rd grade) and in math she scored at almost the 5th grade level.
Socially she's doing well, too. Her teacher said that there are no concerns there and she can work well with a partner (although sometimes has some issues with group work) and can join in groups on the playground.
I'm really proud of Laurie, but a bit stressed, too. Because she's at the top and now there's so much pressure to stay there. And because right now everything comes easily to Laurie, but at some point it won't and to be honest, the kid has pretty crummy study/work habits! Her school folders are completely disorganized. But I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
Meanwhile, Kayla's scoring in the less than 1/10th of 1 percentile on everything. Sigh. My Opposite Kids!!

Wow, Laurie is doing great. Sometimes, I think it is the more disorganized people that do better in life. Maybe Laurie has her priorities right. ;)
That's fantastic! So glad to hear that Laurie is doing so well in school! I'm sure that helps ease your mind a bit.
What wonderful news! Just goes to show that no matter what a kids issues are they are always a worry!
that sounds like it was a great conference and congrats to Laurie for doing so well!
