Morning Mayem, Mini Vacay, Much To Do

MMMMMMM, where to start....

This morning Kayla was just goofing off and not eating breakfast. I kept telling her that she had to eat her waffle because she had to go to school on the bus soon. But every time I handed her the waffle, she'd yell "NOOOOOO!" and throw it.

Of course, when it was time to go, she was sitting on the couch munching on her waffle! As I was pulling her towards the stairs, she complained "EEEE WA! EEEE WA!"

And I told her "It's time to wait for the bus! I told you to eat your waffle earlier!"

She replied by giving me a big loud raspberry noise. Obviously she understands everything I say to her!

Back talk from a nonverbal child!

Tuesday and Wednesday was a short vacation. My parents came in from Ohio and my sister came in from Seattle. The kids and I stayed with them in Middletown, which is probably the closest thing to a large town near us and is about an hour away.

Tuesday seemed really off kilter, though. First my dad called to say pool was closed at the hotel. When I went to pick Laurie up from school, I brought my training certificate to get copied and a Girl Scout fundraising packet to give to the Scout leader who usually picks her kid up. But the copy machine in the office was broken and the Scout leader didn't pick her kid up that day, so I had to leave the packet (and money!) in the PTA mailbox at the school. Sigh. It took forever to get the kids together to leave for the hotel and we didn't get there until 5PM and it was already getting dark. Then my dad couldn't remember what room my sister was in and we were banging on the wrong hotel room door! (fortunately it was vacant, LOL) Then my mom told me that our plans to go to the Museum at Bethel Woods on Wednesday wasn't going to happen because it's only open on the weekends after Labor Day. Sigh.

I was too tired to go out to eat, so we just ordered pizza in. Laurie was SO excited to see her aunt! Apparently aunts are more fun than mommies! Laurie was babbling a mile a minute, jumping on my sister, having pillow fights, jumping on the beds, making forts--she had a blast! Kayla was even excited! She was super stimmy and even joined in when Laurie was attacking my sis, LOL.

It was good to just sit and catch up with the family, even though I just saw them at the end of August! I usually only see my parents once a year and my sister every other year. So it was nice to get together again so soon. And of course, I brought my camera and didn't take any pictures!!!

On Wednesday there wasn't much to do except hang out at the mall. Laurie didn't even want to see a movie. We spent some time wandering around Borders bookstore (of course I couldn't find the book I needed for book club) and my mom bought the kids some presents at Target.

It was weird, I saw about a dozen people with Down syndrome at the mall. Only about half of them were from the group home that's always there. One was a stylishly dressed teenager hanging out at the bookstore and the rest were just kids of various ages out with their parents. I was wondering if it was a convention, LOL! And of course I didn't put on my Buddy Walk shirt on because Laurie wanted to wear it as pajamas since she didn't like the pajamas I packed for her.

It wasn't the most exciting visit, that's for sure! But it's just nice to be with family.

Will probably be taking a short bloggy break. I volunteered to do the Student Directory for the PTA. Fortunately there are only about 180 families in the school, but that's still a lot of typing I have to do. I hope Microsoft Office has a good tutorial on how to create a directory! I've never done anything like that before!

Love the "back talk from a nonverbal child." I seem to be getting a lot of that these days, too!

I am kinda new to your blog. You are to funny. I also love that you mention getting back talk from a non verbal child. Also the part about creating a directory. I have no idea how either. Wishing you the best of luck with that. Glad you were able to spend some time with your family.

"Back talk from a nonverbal child!"

Perfect expression, again, Ecki.

I'll miss your posts during break but wholly support the concept.

Well, glad you got to spend some time with the family! Kayla and her raspberries! She definitely understands what you say or she wouldn't be using her form of "backtalk". LOL! Hope everything goes well with the Student Directory. Will miss you while you're gone.
